[ Have a message from someone you've never met before, Preston! A bit strange, but what isn't around here? Pell's expression is generally pleasant, curious eyes and the hint of a smile. His voice is gentle when he speaks, masculine despite his very feminine features. It might remind Preston of a certain blond he spoke to recently. Their manners might well be opposite, though, for all they're alike. ]
Hi. My name's Pell. You don't know me, but I saw you were speaking to Cal... and said you were curious about getting to know people. We have that in common. What did you mean by 'hell is what you make of it'?
[Speaking with strangers is nothing new for Preston. Not just here, where most everyone is a stranger, but back home as well. People would stop him on the road if they recognized him, or his uniform most likely, and just chat him up. He's never opposed to pleasant talk.]
Hi Pell, name's Preston Garvey. [He smiles back, putting the device onto a table so he can comfortably lean into his seat while he talks.] "Hell is what you make" is just an expression that I picked up growing up - play on "life is what you make of it." Where I come from isn't exactly a comfy place, so we always used to say that the bad in life is a matter of perspective.
[ Pell liked him already from the snippet of conversation he had with Cal, but answering so readily makes the impression more solid. He tilts his head thoughtfully as he listens. ]
You said you were familiar with monsters, though. That's not really perspective, is it? It's a real threat.
Monsters come in different variety, and sometimes the ones you need to be afraid of don't have sharp teeth. They have destructive ways that can't be reasoned with.
